Return of the majority of steel and petrochemical industries to production

The Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade announced the return of the majority of damaged steel and petrochemical units to the production cycle; however, reconstruction operations in some steel revival units are still ongoing.

The return of steel and petrochemical units to operation is significant not only for the production capacity of these industries but also for downstream supply chains; as prolonged disruptions in parent industries can affect the supply of raw materials for other production units. However, in the published statements, no specific figures regarding the recovered production capacity, the number of reconstructed units, or the timeline for the complete return of the remaining units have been provided; therefore, it is currently impossible to calculate the exact amount of recovered production capacity.

The reconstruction of damaged steel and petrochemical industries has entered a new phase, and according to the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, a significant portion of the halted capacities have returned to production.

Seyed Mohammad Atabak, the Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, has stated the latest status of these units, announcing that the reconstruction of steel and petrochemical industries has been pursued with a chain approach; an approach whose goal was not just to restart a factory, but to restore the interconnected production links to operational conditions. According to him, the dependency of many companies on these industries accelerated the reconstruction process.

In the steel sector, most of the damaged melting furnaces have been reconstructed and have resumed their activities. However, the reconstruction file is not yet completely closed; Atabak has stated that some of the revival furnaces are still facing technical issues and the operations to resolve their problems are ongoing.

This distinction is important from the perspective of the steel chain. Direct reduction units provide the metallic feed required for the subsequent stages of steelmaking; therefore, the return of melting furnaces to operation does not alone mean the complete removal of production chain limitations, and the sustainability of production also depends on the status of other links.

The Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade has also stated regarding the supply of sheets needed for downstream industries that there is no concern about the supply of sheets for the automotive and home appliance industries.

The return of steel and petrochemical units to operation is significant not only for the production capacity of these industries but also for the downstream chains; as prolonged disruption in the parent industries can affect the supply of raw materials for other production units. However, in the published statements,no specific figure has been provided regarding the recovered production capacity, the number of reconstructed units, or the timeline for the complete return of the remaining units.; therefore, under the current conditions, it is not possible to calculate the exact amount of recovered production capacity.
